Frequently asked questions

  1. What is Nature Publishing Group Language Editing?

Nature Publishing Group Language Editing (NPG Language Editing) offers premium quality, English-language editing of scientific and medical articles. The service is available to any researcher wishing to improve his or her English regardless of the scientific or medical journal to which they intend to submit (or have submitted) their manuscript. It is not for use solely with Nature Publishing Group (NPG) publications.
  2. Why has NPG launched an English language editing service?

More than 50% of submissions to English language scientific or medical journals are from countries where English is not a primary language. English-language problems can contribute to editorial decisions to reject submissions. NPG Language Editing has been launched to offer all authors a premium quality service to improve their written English and help international researchers deliver their scientific results without the barrier of language.
  3. Who will do the editing?

All editors are native English speakers and have or are working towards a PhD from one of the top US universities, covering a wide range of scientific disciplines. Only the most subject-suitable editor will edit an article. The editorial coordinators providing NPG's quality assessment are experienced senior editors. Read more about us here.
  4. What sorts of changes will editors from NPG Language Editing make to articles?

Articles will be edited for spelling, grammar and sense, for clarity, and for improper use of language. Read more about our editing services here.
  5. Will editors from NPG Language Editing format articles?

No. The service does not include making formatting changes to articles and requests to format articles to a specific journal style will not be accepted.
  6. Will editors from NPG Language Editing edit for scientific accuracy?

No. Although editors from NPG Language Editing do have a scientific background and may occasionally point out what they believe are content-related problems, they will not research or take any responsibility for content. Responsibility for scientific accuracy, logic, flow and all other aspects of content lies with the authors and peer-review process.
  7. After submitting my manuscript to an NPG journal, the NPG editor recommended that I use a service like NPG Language Editing to improve my written English. Does this imply that editing of my article by NPG Language Editing will lead to acceptance by an NPG publication?

No. Using NPG Language Editing does not imply that an article will be selected for peer review or accepted for publication by an NPG journal or any other journal. The decisions made by editors of NPG journals are independent of whether a manuscript has been language-edited by NPG Language Editing.
