Author resources
Thank you for your interest in Nature Publishing Group Language Editing. Our aim is to help you deliver the best possible manuscript. Below is some useful information that will help you make the most out of our service.
How to upload your manuscript
Once you set up your account, a few simple procedures can help you reduce the cost of the service and increase its value. Following these suggestions is not required but is strongly encouraged.
- Send us your final version of the document so that you do not need to worry about making changes at a later stage.
- The managing editor who assigns your paper to an editor will be able to see information such as your name and email address. However, your editor and a senior editor will also see the text of your manuscript during the editing process. If you are uncomfortable with the editor seeing personal information, such as your name or organization, please feel free to remove any personal information present within your manuscript. This ensures that the editor does not know whose paper he or she is editing, removes any possible personal biases and helps maintain confidentiality.
- Remove any tables, graphs, figures and references from your manuscript. This helps to limit the size of the file for easier uploading and downloading. If you leave them in the document, note that they will not be edited and will not count towards the word count. However, our editors will edit the figure legends when included with your manuscript.
- If your document is not in Microsoft Word, please copy and paste the document into Microsoft Word and then use the word count feature (under 'Tools') to determine the size of your manuscript.
- If you have any special instructions to the editor, please include them in the 'Special instructions' feature that appears during the process of uploading your manuscript.
- When you upload your manuscript, make sure that you are taken to a confirmation screen and that you receive a confirmation email. If this does not occur, it is possible that your manuscript did not upload. If you are not able to view your manuscript in the 'Recent history' section of your account, it means that your transaction failed. Please upload your article again, or contact us to notify us of your problem.
- Use an active email address for your account to make sure you receive notices when your manuscripts are ready.
Service procedures
- Once you upload your article we will strive to provide timely, quality editing and excellent customer service. Your account will allow you to upload articles, monitor their progress, download edited files, access invoices, generate discounts (when applicable) and provide feedback.
- During the editing process, changes and comments will be made using Microsoft Word's Track Changes feature. Do not be discouraged if you find a considerable number of changes; it simply means your editor was thorough in examining your work.
- To ensure that you gain the maximum value from using the service, we recommend that you review all the changes and comments the editors have made before you accept them. This will allow you to see what changes have been made to the document and to confirm that the changes have not altered your intended meaning. Although we assign editors with a background in your field, they are human and can sometimes misunderstand the intended meaning of a sentence or phrase.
- If you have a question about the editing process or about NPG Language Editing, please consult our FAQs. If you cannot find your answer there, please contact us and we will endeavor to answer your question.
